NEW YEAR GOAL SETTING
By Andy Hillocks
I’m not the kind of person to set New Year resolutions, I prefer goals. I’m very much a goal orientated individual. I like to have something to work towards. I’ve always stuck to the same goal strategy and that’s setting an easy, medium and hard goal for the year.
Easy being a very realistic goal that you can achieve pretty easily. The reason I do this is because achieving something early on in the year is motivating in itself, it gives you a sense of achievement and spurs you on early in the year.
Medium goals are still realistic but they’ll take time and more effort to achieve. However that extra time and effort will be far more rewarding and motivating once you achieve it.
And finally the hard goal. This should be a goal that scares you; you may think it might not even be possible, but this is what those other goals have to be building towards. This should be the kind of goal where you say to yourself, “Imagine if I could achieve that by the end of the year”. It doesn’t just have to be fitness related, you can use it for life goals, career goals, whatever.
But the most important part, write your goals down! There’s no point storing them up in your head, write them down and tick them off – maybe even tell someone what they are so you’re held accountable!
